An alumna of the Institute of Mental Health, Hyderabad, she has built a career grounded in academic excellence, compassionate patient care, and visionary leadership. As Professor and Superintendent at the Institute of Mental Health, she has mentored numerous postgraduate students and young psychiatrists, shaping the next generation of mental health professionals through her insightful teaching, clinical wisdom, and empathetic guidance.

Her administrative acumen and commitment to mental health policy were reflected in her tenure as Member Secretary and CEO of the State Mental Health Authority, Telangana, where she played a pivotal role in advancing state-level mental health initiatives, ensuring access to ethical, evidence-based care across the public sector. Dr. Anitha Rayirala’s work has been widely recognized — she is a recipient of the prestigious Poduvu Ramamma Chinna Reddy Gold Medal Award for best award paper presentations in the consultant category (2018 and 2022).

With over 15 scientific publications, she continues to contribute meaningfully to psychiatric research, especially in areas related to public mental health awareness, psychopharmacology, and community psychiatry. Beyond academia, she has been actively involved in public awareness campaigns, advocating for mental health literacy, de-stigmatization, and early intervention through media, seminars, and outreach programs.
